Education In Schools

Xtreme Zero Waste is so very pleased to offer both a classroom education program as well as facilitated support for setting up zero waste initiatives at your school – FREE to primary schools in the Waikato District, and generously funded by Waikato District Council. What’s on Offer to Schools!

1) “Zero Waste Education” at your school, in your learning areas. The Zero Waste Education (ZWE) program has been educating children about the topic of sustainable resource use since 1993. This award-winning programme is now offered to over 480 schools throughout New Zealand to primary and intermediate students, years 1-8.

This free Council programme is available to any school in the Waikato District. It enables children to investigate the links between the earth’s natural resources, the products we use, and the resulting waste that pollutes our environment. There are 8 units that rotate each year ensuring students receive new material with each subsequent visit. Our program is notorious for being fun, interactive, and hands on.

2) Kura Para Kore (Zero Waste Schools): In partnership with Para Kore, this is facilitated support and education to help schools anywhere in the Waikato in practical terms reduce waste at school. Para Kore is about normalising zero waste practices from a Te Ao Māori perspective. There are wānanga on offer that investigate and address your school waste streams and volumes, and check the efficiency of any waste systems in place. We measure and record as we go, track your progress, and supply you with resources to help achieve your goals. You can find out more about Para Kore here:
