Ruawaro Combined – 7 November
Danielle and Melissa ran a site tour for Ruawaro School – around 25 kids and 6 adults. The kids knew quite a bit about different kinds of recycling. The first activity we did was to get the kids to sort out a bag of rubbish into the different categories; recycling, reuse, landfill. Next we went to the Recycling Bay and had a Wash & Squash competition! The processing bay and the bales of recycling really intrigued both kids and adults; the kids wanted to see if they could move a bale of plastic! Next we visited the Wood yard and talked about all the cool things being made in here – the adults loved it and one parent even bought a bar stool! Then to the Worm Farms – kids all found the different stages of worm life. The kids were really interested in the metal yard, especially the bikes! Heaps of interest in Kaahus Nest too, kids explored the Free Pile and some boys went away with a few soft toys and handbags!
