Matua X has arrived!!! – From Pirongia School Newsletter
Zero Waste Educator, Matua X (aka Paul Murray) will be working in all classrooms, for 3 or 4 sessions over the last two weeks of this term. Zero Waste is a free Council programme that enables children to investigate the link between the earth’s natural resources, the products they use and the resulting waste that pollutes our environment. Matua X has a wealth of knowledge, overdose of enthusiasm and memorable delivery of his programme, keep an eye out for him around the school over the next 2 weeks! These sessions will be an introduction and information gathering time to lead into our school wide inquiry focus for term 3 – to identify and find solutions to some of our school waste issues. The programme will deliver the following units, focusing on a specific solution to waste problems. Years 1/2 – Is that Really Rubbish? Years 3/4 – Reuse Unit Years 5/6 – Recycle Unit Years 7/8 – Resource Sustainability Unit Ask your children about their Zero Waste learning, they may possibly have ideas on how to improve systems at home to reduce your household waste!? If this topic is something that particularly interests you and you would like to become involved in finding ways to reduce our school waste, and establish/maintain some meaningful systems, please let us know who you are, we would welcome your help and enthusiasm.
